Boys and Girls Club of America
Introduction
I. “Take a seat, take a seat, take a load off your feet. Rooty-tooty, sit on your booty!”
II. This is just one of the many songs sang during assembly time at the Boys and Girls Club to get the members attention.

III. Today I want to tell you about the Boys and Girls Club of America.

Body
(Transition: When you think of BGC can you even imagine it being over 100 years old?)
I. BGC started in 1860 in Hartford, Connecticut
a. Mary Goodwin, Alice Goodwin and Elizabeth Hammersley thought that there had to be a better place for boys who roamed the streets.
b. 1906 Boston Boys started an affiliation called “The Boys Club” with 53 members joining the organization.
c. 1931 Boys Club Federation became known as the Boys Club of America.
d. 1956 Boys Club received recognition of 50th anniversary.
e. 1990 Name changed and amended by congress to the Boys and Girls Club of America.
f. 2006 BGCA celebrated its 100th Anniversary.
(Transition: You may think that this club could be just seen as a daycare like any other care giving facility but there is more to this club.)
II. What importance it serves our country.

c. Statistics
i. 57% of Alumni said The Club saved their life.
ii. 90% of Alumni graduated from high school. This is 23.33% higher than the national average.
iii. 28% of Alumni believed that they would have dropped out of high school if not for the Club .
iv. 92% of Alumni reported that helping others was a priority.
v. 86% of Alumni say that the Club played an important role in their ability to work with others.
Conclusion
IV. We can see that the Boys and Girls Club of America is a vital organization for our country.
V. Today I was here to inform you about the Boys and Girls Club of America.
VI. I told you about the history, the importance and the influence this organization has on our country.
VII. If you are not familiar with the organization I encourage you to apply for a job or volunteer to see what an outstanding program this is.
